Delta RPI 80kW Inverter to launch in SA

The worlds largest string inverter was recently launched in North America. We are set to receive first orders in South Africa by the end of 2016. We discuss whats to expect with Delta’s flagship product.

It’s more and better

The latest RPI80 is a grid-tied, 3phase transformer-less inverter that converts DC output from a photovoltaic PV system into a utility frequency alternating current (AC). With industry leading efficiency of 98.8 percent, it seamlessly integrates within an electric grid and within buildings. Designed with simple installation and energy performance in mind, the RPI80 expands Delta’s best-in-class transformer-less solar inverter technology.

“We’re excited to see the addition of a 80kW inverter – its a size currently lacking in the string inverters line-up. 80kW makes for a great entry level commercial unit and chains up to provide serious utility scale,” said Wayne de Jager, Commercial Sales Director at SolarXgen.” We believe that the Delta range of string inverters will play an even greater role in multi-megawatt plants.”

As a 2-stage inverter, the RPI80 has a wide input range spanning from 200 to 1000 volts dc. In accordance with Delta’s mission of “providing innovative, clean, energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow,” its latest solar inverter incorporates exciting and advanced features that will deliver maximum efficiency over a much wider power range than transformer-based inverters. Leveraging Delta’s industry-leading switching power technologies, the RPI80 provides superior performance with a peak efficiency of 98.8 percent.

“Delta Inverters have a credible market portfolio in South Africa, and we believe that Delta will continue to gain market share over the next 5 years and remain a default choice for EPC companies looking at reliability, longevity and performance,” says Roy Taylor – PowerProjects.

RPI80’s all-in-one design integrates 16 strings with fuse protection and arc fault detection circuits. Built-in DC switches and AC and DC surge protection devices (SPDs) are standard. To provide increased flexibility during PV array configuration, the RPI80 is equipped with 2 maximum power point (MPP) trackers, making the worlds largest string inverter incredibly intelligent.
