Are Tesla batteries coming to SA through SolarXgen?
There has been a lot of speculation in the market place that SolarXgen is bringing the new Tesla battery ( Powerwall ) to South Africa. Could this be what is needed to curb the Load-shedding?
We caught up with Brian Fox from SolarXgen to find out more. “We’ve heard the rumours smirks Fox – and all we can say right now is that we are tight-lipped”. ” I can however say that Tesla batteries will not soon be readily available but we do have a similar solution which is launching next month”.
Sold out in a week says Musk
The Tesla batteries – dubbed “PowerWall” are designed for home use. A home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels and powers your home in the evening. It also fortifies your home against power outages by providing a backup electricity supply. Automated, compact and simple to install, Powerwall offers independence from the utility grid and the security of an emergency backup.
Leapfrogging Technology – 4 hour batteries
Tesla batteries have certainly created awareness in the market place says Fox, “but it is not the only new technology available. We will be sooner – launching a home platform that is powered by the latest Lead Carbon battery technology (PbC). Powering an average home for 3-4 hours on battery requires far more than 7-10KWH of storage, its closer to 15-25KWH for the majority of users and thats where PbC batteries work out nicely – their price.”
First Pickings
As most – we find ourselves scrambling to an immediate solution to the South African energy crisis. Tesla batteries are some-time away, even then – are they large enough. When will the new Lead-Carbon batteries be available. “It’s all happening sooner than you think” – says Fox. To be first inline on launch dates make sure you are signed up to our newsletter.
I need to talk to a company rep on the GRIDPOD. Do you currently have a distributor in Nambia?
Please advise asap.
